Yesterday morning, the kids and I read about God’s love for His people in our devotion from their Children’s One Year Bible.
The last of the devotion read:
“I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, who will save you. You are precious to me, and I love you.
“Come to me, everyone who is thirsty. I have cool water for you! come to me everyone who has no money—I have a feast to share with you. Why do you want to spend your money on things that cannot make you happy? Why buy things that leave you hungry again tomorrow? Come to me and listen. Come to me and I will give you life!â€
After reading this we talked about God’s love.
I explained to them that this was God’s message to His people from Isaiah, but that it is also His message to us. That He loves us and he wants us to know of His great love.
Then we talked about how God wants us to come to Him.
We talked about ways that we can come to God.
through prayer
through worship
through obedience
through reading His Word
As EA walked away from the table, she was still talking about coming to God through obeying Him.
I asked her the question, “What if we don’t obey? Does God wants us to come to him then?â€
Her immediate response to that was, “No.â€
Isn’t that just like our immediate, natural response to our sin of disobedience?
We doubt God’s love and we don’t come to Him.
We want to hide our sin and we desire to seclude ourselves from our God who loves us so much.
I reassured EA that God does still want us to come to him when we don’t obey.
I told her that when we disobey we should go to God, tell Him that we are sorry and ask for His forgiveness.
He is always waiting to accept us and to forgive our sins.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. –1 John 1:9
He desires for us to come to Him.
He desires for you to come to Him.
Are you afraid to come because of disobedience?
Are you hesitant to accept his forgiveness?
Don’t be.
Because the God that loves you and gave his Son for you desires for you to come to Him.
He has cool water for you!
He has a feast to share with you!
He can make you happy when the world…when sin…cannot.
He will not leave you hungry again tomorrow. He will satisfy.
Come to him and listen.
Come to him and he will give you life!
