Squaw Valley recently completed an amazing event at the world-class ski resort in Lake Tahoe.
The event was titled, Olympic Heritage Celebration and celebrated the 50th anniversary of the VIII Olympic Winter Games, that were proudly hosted by Squaw Valley back in 1960.
Squaw Valley’s 10-day Olympic heritage celebration launched a campaign to raise money to build an Olympic museum. Event coordinators and hope this will be a major step for Lake Tahoe region towards making a bid for the 2022 games.
The Olympic Heritage Celebration was wonderful way to display the beauty of Lake Tahoe and the rich ski history that has brought millions of people to visit and enjoy this scenic beauty high in the Sierra Mountains.
The celebration started off with a commemorative relay torch run beginning at the Sugar Pine Point on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. This spot is where the Olympic Nordic events were held in 1960. The torch relay continued on to Squaw Valley, where the majority of athletes stayed in the incredible Olympic Village.
It was reported that more than a dozen of the 1960 Olympian participants mingled with many from other past Olympic games to make this a memorable experience for all. [via]
